    PELICANS are the junior rugby section of Gordonian RFC. Following a hugely successful third season in 2018/19, the Section will cater in season 2019/20 for any P1 – P5 child interested in playing rugby.

  • RUGBY SESSIONS 2019/20

    Mini Ruby Sessions are held weekly on Sunday mornings, from August 2019 through to May 2020. The children will be coached by SRU trained coaches in four groups - one for children in P1 & P2, and three further groups each for P3, P4 and P5 children. Sessions are held at Countesswells Playing Field, Countesswells Road, Aberdeen, AB15 7YJ, from 10:00am to 11:30am.

    Primary One & Two Group

    INTRODUCTION TO THE GAME

    The aim of this group is to introduce the basic fundamentals of playing the game of rugby. Children are involved in team exercises which develop the core techniques in handling and passing the ball in a fun learning environment.

    DEVELOP SKILLS & LEARN RULES​

    The aim of this group is to further develop the children's ball handling skills. Structured training is given along with the introduction of touch/tag games, as part of the session. Again fun and enjoyment of the game is a key focus.

    Primary Four Group

    DEVELOP SKILLS & LEARN RULES​

    At this year group, physical contact (i.e. tackling) is introduced as well as the continuing development of ball handling skills and general game sense. Structured training and sound tackle technique provide a lead into structured matches played in accordance with the National Age Grade Law Variations and against other local Clubs. Again fun and enjoyment and respect for the game and opponents are key elements.

    Primary Five Group

    DEVELOP SKILLS & LEARN RULES​

As always, fun, enjoyment and respect for the game and opponents, are key elements.

    The values gained playing rugby will benefit the children in all areas of their life.

    At Gordonian Pelicans we want every child to benefit from the respect, discipline, teamwork and skill 

    that can be gained from learning the game.


    We believe these values in turn help children enjoy the game more and with friendship, fun, fitness 

    and competition, grow to love the game for life.

    From time to time we participate in local Rugby Festivals and Tournaments, which are enjoyed by all.

     

    We are currently planning to hold our own Rugby Festival in March 2020. Details to follow.
